Helping children build skills for everyday life

Children use a wide range of skills each day to move through routines, join in play, manage emotions, and take part in learning. Our role is to look at what may be getting in the way and provide child occupational therapy that supports progress in a way that feels practical, personalised, and relevant to daily life.

How we can help

Support shaped around your child

No two children experience challenges in the same way, which is why we take the time to understand each child’s strengths, needs, and goals.

Therapy Ki offers thoughtful support across home, school, and community settings, helping children build skills, confidence, and greater independence over time.

Everyday life skills

Our child occupational therapy support includes helping children build confidence with the everyday routines that shape daily life. This may include dressing, feeding, toileting, bathing, grooming, and other self care tasks that can sometimes feel challenging or overwhelming. By developing these skills in a practical and supportive way, children can build greater independence at home, improve school readiness, and feel more capable in everyday situations.

Fine and gross motor skills

As a paediatric OT, we support children to develop the coordination, strength, balance, and control needed for movement and everyday activity. This can include fine motor skills for handwriting, using scissors, grasp and hand control, as well as gross motor skills for climbing, posture, ball skills, balance, and overall body awareness. Strengthening these areas can make a meaningful difference to a child’s confidence in play, learning, and daily tasks.

Play and social development

Play and social connection are a big part of how children learn, build relationships, and make sense of the world around them. As a child occupational therapist, we help children develop skills such as turn taking, cooperative play, shared attention, emotional understanding, and confidence in social settings with peers. Support in this area can help children feel more comfortable joining in, expressing themselves, and building positive relationships over time.

Sensory and emotional regulation

For some children, sensory experiences and big emotions can make parts of the day feel more intense or difficult to manage. Our paediatric occupational therapy approach helps children better understand their sensory needs, recognise emotional responses, and build practical strategies that support regulation. This may include tools for transitions, calming techniques, and personalised supports that help children participate more comfortably across home, school, and community settings.

Assessments and reports

We provide clear and thoughtful assessments and reports to give families a better understanding of how their child is functioning across different areas of everyday life. This may include functional capacity, motor, and sensory assessments, along with written documentation that supports therapy planning, goal setting, and recommendations for ongoing support. For families seeking child occupational therapy support, these reports can also provide helpful information for referrals, funding, and broader care planning.
